History

Slade mysteriously showed up in the Underground many years ago, although it is not recorded what exact year he arrived, it is known that he showed up without parents or a guardian. Slade grew up in isolation, keeping to himself in a shoddily built shack within the woods outside of Snowdin; teaching himself how to survive and becoming self-sufficient slowly over time. Slade claims to be the son of the original Iblis, but these claims cannot be verified. Eventually realizing that a life without social interaction is far from sustainable, Slade began to leave his house and reach out to the Underground slowly, bit by bit.

After finally leaving his isolation and self-sufficiency behind, Slade became aware of the lack of entertainment available across the Underground. Always being one to enjoy the glamour of the spotlight, he quickly went to work on constructing a makeshift broadcasting tower on his property, much to the chagrin of Snowdin's local officials. Although he won't admit it, the tower was only rendered operational after the intervention of Ranch, desperate for a paying job as a relatively new member of the Condiment Crew. With his broadcasting tower ready, and a new friend to serve as his reluctant tech support, Slade began a series of radio broadcasts across the Underground.

Before the innovation of the internet became widely available across the Underground, many monsters possessed simple radios and jury-rigged televisions they had salvaged from the Garbage Dump. Seeing his opportunity after initial podcast-style broadcasts failed, Slade seized the opportunity to add variety to his programming, expanding his operation to include radio broadcasts of music, news, radio plays, and academia submitted by listeners and curated by himself and his assistants. With the success of the radio broadcasts, he eventually gained the confidence to re-invent himself as a bombastic television personality, offering a small but varied selection of television programs including a trivia show format, a late-night talk show, and a history show curated and edited by Ranch.

Personality

Slade puts on the smile and bravado of a used-car salesman in front of a microphone and a camera but is well known to have violent mood swings when in private. Years of isolation have permanently stunted his social skills, rendering him unable to develop meaningful relationships outside of those he has already created. Even when he does have meaningful relationships, this does not guarantee their success, as Slade has already pushed away several close friends of his for "the sake of his career" in his own words. A lustful narcissist at heart, Slade has an infamous reputation for his womanizing and flirtatious nature, though he privately courts the affection of just about anybody.

Though energetic and passionate on the surface, this savvy appearance is merely a mask to hide the inner troubles plaguing Slade's SOUL. His small circle of friends has attempted to stage several interventions to protect him in recent years, which have sadly taken place to no avail. Now drunk on power and the attention he's received from across the Underground, Slade has seemingly permanently changed from the quiet and shy man he once was, now demanding the spotlight in even the smallest of circumstances.

Relationships

Paz - Paz is a close friend of Slade, who he is quite protective over despite the past semi-hostile terms that they met under. Originally meeting through a scientist group capturing Slade for potential research into the Monster race, Paz was the daughter of the head scientist of the group. Being so, she encountered Slade quite regularly; all the while developing somewhat of a liking for him. After the disbandment of the unit and their retreat from the Underground, Slade rediscovered the child wandering the Underground, offering to help her at least get on her feet before she could find a way to leave. Paz often helps Slade work with the equipment required for his radio and TV station.

Clover - Originally only knowing of Clover through the fact that he was dating Paz, Slade held little respect, or in some cases even tolerance for the bunny-like monster. Knowing that Clover was likely to stay, he put up with the presence of him simply because the fact that it made Paz happy. Although he won't show it, Slade holds somewhat of a soft spot for the days when Clover was still around, liking him considerably more than Paz's current significant other.

Ranch - Somewhat thrown off by the presence of the boy who was once raised by WOLF, Slade likes to keep his distance from the former Condiment Crew member in the worries that he may still be reporting to the now-defunct Women's Omniscient Logistics Force, feeding them information on his whereabouts and what he may be doing. This paranoia of recapture occurs every once in a blue moon, but Slade still fears running into Ranch in one way or another.

Bryson - Slade and Bryson originally met a long time back when Slade finally got around to socializing with the other denizens of The Underground; At one point or another, it came to develop that Slade enjoyed Bryson a little bit more than best buds, though this didn't lead much of anywhere in the end: only causing more problems before Slade got his life sorted out again.

The Panic Twins - Slade and Fear met in a very unorthodox way, at least, that's how most other people would see it: unorthodox and not the best start to any healthy relationship. Regardless, Slade and Fear eventually grew to (at the very least) tolerate the presence of each other, toleration growing to a somewhat strange form of love. Although it's been some time since Slade and Fear have spoken to each other, Slade still holds at least some hopes that she'll return someday.
